Join other aspiring author from the Memphis area as they start writing their writing journey. These workshops held at libraries and bookstores offer a two-hour introduction to either memoir writing or novel writing.

The MFA in Creative Writing at the University of Memphis is geared toward those who want to finish with a degree and a book. It is an ideal program for retirees who want help in writing novel or memoir and for emerging writers ready to focus on craft and execution. Part-time students are accepted. We also have two of the nation’s best poets teaching in the program.

Anyone can take an undergraduate creative writing class in poetry, nonfiction, or fiction. The University of Memphis offers seniors the opportunity to audit classes free of charge.

This writing program is for rising juniors and seniors in high school and offers a two-week immersion into a college-level writing class. Courtney has taught fiction writing there for the last decade.
For more than thirty years, I talked about the book I was going to write. It wasn’t until I took a community workshop that I stopped talking and started writing. That book, THE ROOTS OF THE OLIVE TREE, was written during my time in an MFA program. It was published two years after I graduated, and became an international best seller.
